Franklin Templeton was founded in 1947 by Rupert H. Johnson, Sr. He named it after one of the United States’ founding fathers, Benjamin Franklin (his iconic image appears on the American hundred-dollar bill). Fun fact: Franklin Templeton’s NYSE ticker symbol is BEN.

The firm added the name “Templeton” after it acquired Templeton, Galbraith & Hansberger in 1992.
