The group is celebrating 30 years with a new opportunity for students

FP Canada has introduced a new scholarship aimed at increasing diversity within the financial planning profession, announcing the initiative as part of its 30th anniversary milestone.
The non-profit organization said Tuesday it will award the annual FP Canada Diversity in Action Scholarship to five individuals from underrepresented groups who are pursuing either Certified Financial Planner (CFP) or Qualified Associate Financial Planner (QAFP) certification.
The scholarship, valued at up to $5,000 per recipient depending on the chosen program, will cover enrollment costs in qualifying education programs offered through the FP Canada Institute. Options include the QAFP Certification Program, the QAFP Certification Program for Mutual Funds or Securities Licensed Representatives, the CFP Certification Program, and the CFP Certification Program for Mutual Funds or Securities Licensed Representatives.
The initiative is open to women, racialized persons, Indigenous persons, 2SLGBTQ+ individuals, and persons with disabilities who can demonstrate financial need. Applicants must also have completed a postsecondary degree or diploma or be in the final year of their studies.
“The launch of the FP Canada Diversity in Action Scholarship is a step toward building a profession where a multitude of perspectives are represented, which will help ensure that Canadians can access financial planning that meets their diverse needs,” said FP Canada president and CEO Tashia Batstone in a statement. “It’s an investment in five deserving future financial planners, the profession at large, and the financial well-being of all Canadians.”
According to the organization, the scholarship aligns with its IMAGINE 2030 vision, which outlines a commitment to ensure the profession reflects Canada’s population while advancing financial wellness across the country.
FP Canada is a national not-for-profit organization focused on education, certification, and professional oversight in financial planning. Founded in 1995, the organisation said its anniversary marks an “ideal time” to reaffirm its dedication to the profession.
Applications for the scholarship are open until Oct. 20, 2025. Interested candidates are required to submit an essay describing their intent to pursue financial planning and outlining their financial need. Full eligibility criteria and details are available on the FP Canada website.
